Dear Parents and Friends of the St. Charles School Community:
During the last five months you have repeatedly demonstrated your commitment to St. Charles School.
Many of you have made personal and financial sacrifices to ensure that we have been in a position to continue our core mission to educate our students academically, spiritually, and socially. Thank you all for your hard work and support under the incredibly challenging circumstances that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented.
We want to share important updates as we look to the coming academic year. As you all know, after spending weeks working with Ms. Kovac and Mrs. Hayes, as of July 1st, Mrs. Donna Cargill formally commenced her duties as Principal of St. Charles School. Assuming this leadership role under normal
circumstances is a big undertaking. When you factor in the impact of COVID-19 it only serves to amplify the need for the entire school community to support Mrs’ Cargill and her entire team of talented faculty and staff moving forward.
We would like to thank Rufina Britto and Amanda Walker for their years of service on the School Board as they recently concluded their terms. For the coming year, Matt Henson and Ruairi O’Mahony will serve as Co-Chairs of the School Board. After serving as Board chair/co-chair for several years, Margaret Pinkham will serve as Board Secretary to ensure a smooth transition and to provide continued support and guidance.
In addition, the following parents have agreed to join the board:
Todd Davis: Todd is the Chair of the Classics Department at the Belmont Hill School, where he also coaches wrestling and football. He has over twenty years of experience in education. He lives in Woburn with his wife Meredith and has two children at SCS – one entering third grade and one entering fifth
Debora Konig: Debora is the Area Director of Marketing at Simon Property Group. She resides in Woburn with her husband Eric. They have a son and daughter currently enrolled at SCS in first and third grade.
Kevin Murphy: Kevin is the Manager of IT Service Management at Tufts University and has worked in Higher Education for 25 years. He resides in Billerica with his wife Kathleen and they have a daughter and son enrolled at SCS entering grades 7 and 5.
Caroline Morin: Caroline is a Nurse Practitioner at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. She is an alumna of St Charles graduating in the class of 1997. She lives in Woburn with her husband, Jeff, and their three children, Cole (4th grade), Finn (1st grade), and Mackenzie (2 years old).
We are all excitedly planning for our physical return to St. Charles in the Fall in line with the relevant guidance from state and public health officials, the Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools Office. Mrs. Cargill will continue to send timely updates on
operational plans as information is available. As you all know, the pandemic has created many challenges and obstacles that no one could have
envisioned earlier this Spring. In response, the school and parish have instituted strict spending controls, deferred non-essential facilities projects, and explored numerous options for external grant funding. Even with these measures, we still need to do all we can to contribute to the financial wellbeing of our school and parish.
For those parents who have yet to re-register, and have the financial means to do so, we ask that you please do so as soon as possible. All of the information you need can be found at the following link: https://saintcharleswoburn.com/admissions-registration/.
Please reach out to Mrs. Cargill if you have any questions or need assistance. Tuition dollars are critical to the school and accurate numbers will
allow us to better plan for services to benefit our students for the coming year.
In closing, the news that St. Charles School will be physically open this Fall is a ray of light in a monthslong barrage of bad news. We will have many challenges moving forward but these are challenges we can overcome when we work together as part of the wonderful, tight-knit St. Charles School community that we all love.
Your continued support of St. Charles School is more important than ever.
